Llijlla Macha
Liijlla from Macha, province of Chayanta in Potosi.
Like the textiles from Tinkipaya, (which are from the same region, northern Potosi) the use of stars and eyes in their designs which are most often placed within zigzagging bands are called kutinaku.
The zigzags are composed by obtuse points that can be read as mountains or towers that are the equivalent representation of masculinity. The diamond shapes on the other hand are read as chakras or seeds and are thought to be the feminine part of the textile.
The predominant colors in the Aqsus of this region are usually dark.
The Llijllas are from the Quechua regions of Bolivia, which are located in the central, southern regions and around some areas near the Lake Titicaca. They are rectangular shaped and are worn by women as a shawl pined on the front with a topo (pin), and like the Aguayos, they are also used to carry babies as well as any other goods.
Product Info
This is a vintage piece - this is a real llijlla that belonged to someone for likely decades. We take great care in hand selecting the pieces we choose and while for the most part they are in amazing conditions, these have been loved and used for many many years and therefore aren't perfect 'brandnew' items. We feel this adds to the beauty and uniqueness of these pieces, and we hope you do too.
