Poncho Jacket Huayruru Mangas

Poncho Jacket Huayruru Mangas

Combination of a vintage poncho Huayruru (Red and black) from Achacachi, province of Omasuyos in La Paz, and a vintage Members Only 1980's leather jacket.

Vintage 1980's Members Only leather jacket. Sturdy black leather with black ribbed knit waist band and cuffs. Zip front with snapped placket.

A typical Aymara textile where the dominant design feature is the stripe. It is believed that the stripes were inspired by the topography of the land, the horizontal levels as one traverses the Altiplano.

The significance of colors is important to note. Huayruru (Aymara) and Wayruru (Quechua) is a small red and black seed believed to be a powerful good luck charm used by the Incas for protection. This protection is translated to the Huayruru Ponchos, as they were worn by the ‘Guerreros’. Red represents the blood that has been spilled during the fights for liberation, and the black represents death and the mourning for these fights.

All of our jackets are one of a kind.

  • Product Info

This is a vintage piece - this is a real poncho rojo that belonged to someone for likely decades. We take great care in hand selecting the pieces we choose and while for the most part they are in amazing conditions, these have been loved and used for many many years and therefore aren't perfect 'brandnew' items. We feel this adds to the beauty and uniqueness of these pieces, and we hope you do too.

  • Return and Refund Policy

If you are unhappy with the piece you have purchased we would be happy to refund it or exchange it for a different one, but we request that you pay for shipping.
